The main characters of the realistically drawn adventure series, which mainly took place in the Indian jungle, were three young people, the so-called "jungle boys": Roy Tiger, the son of a British jungle doctor and his two Indian friends Khamar and Paki. During their completed adventures, the three boys regularly received support from four tamed animals: Shimmy (the monkey), Lahani (the elephant), Sheeta (the black panther) and Shumba (the snake).

Volumes 1 to 5 initially appeared as part of the Western comic series Lasso , from volume 6 Roy Tiger got an independent series, which was continued up to volume 79. As part of the Wastl comic book series , eleven more 24-page Roy Tiger adventures were published in 1970, each story being made up of three 8-page parts (three Wastl books that came out one after the other resulted in a completed Roy Tiger story).

In addition, a total of twelve two-page short stories were published in the Bastei comic series Bessy and Felix in 1968 .

In 1966, the series appeared in Spain as part of the Aventuras ilustradas series under the title Aventuras en la selva .
