The clubhouse is located on Victoria Harbor on Kellett Island . The yacht club moved there in 1938. A brick building was previously built on the corner of Oil Street ( 油 街 , Yóu Jiē , Jyutping Jau 4 Gaai 1 ) and Electric Road ( 電氣 道  /  电气 道 , Diànqì Dào , Jyutping Din 6 hei 3 Dou 6 ) in North Point ( 北角 , Běi Jiǎo , Jyutping Bak 1 Gok 3 ) used as a clubhouse, which was opened in 1908 and is still preserved today.

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club prides itself on "having a rich, diverse history that goes back over 160 years" . To this day, the club has retained the elitist flair of British colonial rule .
