The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS) is an Australian private yacht club founded in 1862 and based in North Sydney ( East Kirribilli ). The club's commodore is Andrew McIntyre.
The club conducts its own regattas and especially promotes popular and youth sports.
history
The Sydney Yacht Squadron was founded on July 8, 1862 by 19 sailors. A year later, the Prince of Wales gave him the privilege of being able to call himself royal and the club became the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron . In 1903 the club moved to its current clubhouse in North Sydney. Since 1960 the club has been promoting youth sport in the “Squadron's Youth Sailing program” and in 1982 an offshore division was founded.
