The Roztocze National Park ( Polish Roztoczański Park Narodowy ) is a national park in Poland , which is located in the southeastern part of the country, in the Lublin Voivodeship .

General

The national park includes the most valuable natural resources of central Roztocze . This landscape is located in the valley of the upper Wieprz . The central Roztocze is separated from the Lubelska plateau and the Sandomierz basin and has a special geological structure. The most important types of relief are upper course plains, residual mountains, ridges, gorges and valleys.

flora

The flora of vascular plants in the national park is estimated to be around 750 species. There are also around 400 monument trees in the national park area. There are 21 forest communities and a number of lower-ranking plant communities, of which the most valuable, the highland fir forests and the Carpathian beech forest, make up about 45% of the forest area. The local fir trees are among the largest in Poland (50 m high, 470 cm in circumference and up to 20 m³ of wood pulp).

fauna

Large mammals found in the national park include deer , roe deer , wild boars , foxes , martens , badgers , lynxes and wolves, as well as otters and beavers in bodies of water . Moose also appear periodically in the national park. In 1979 beavers, which had since become extinct in the park, were reintroduced. In 1982, Bilgorai horses were introduced into the National Park, descendants of the former forest wild horses, which are now also a symbol of the National Park.

Among the 190 bird species living in the park, the lesser spotted eagle , the honey buzzard , the black stork , the numerous woodpeckers (including the rare white-backed woodpecker ), the miniature flycatcher and the collared flycatcher , the stock dove , the siskin and the gray wagtail deserve special attention.

The reptiles are represented by the sand lizard , the forest lizard and the slow worm - often in their turquoise form, the adder and the grass snake , as well as the rare pond turtle .
