Rubén González Ávila

Rubén González Ávila (* around 1960 in Holguín ) is a Cuban guitarist and music teacher.

González attended the Escuela Provincial de Artes “Raúl Gómez García” in his hometown from 1974 to 1977 and the Escuela Nacional de Música in Havana until 1982 . From 1986 to 1991 he majored in classical guitar at the Instituto Superior de Arte , where Alina Quesada , Efraín Amador and Aldo Rodríguez were his teachers. Finally he took part in master classes from Leo Brouwer .

From 1982 to 1984 he taught at the Escuela Vocacional de Artes in Holguín from 1984 to 1995 at the Escuela Vocacional de Artes in Matanzas and then became professor at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música of Santo Domingo. At the invitation of the Venezuelan Fundación Calcano , he gave master classes on the Cátedra Latinoamericana Agustín Barrios Mangore . Since 2000 he has directed the Concurso Nacional y Festival Internacional de Guitarra de la Republica Dominica .

González has given concerts in Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Korea, Poland and the USA and has participated in international festivals in Havana and Santo Domingo as well as the Uczenia Festival in Warsaw. He has performed with the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho (Venezuela), the Sinfónica Nacional de República Dominicana , the Orquesta Sinfónica de Matanzas , the Orquesta Sinfónica de Oriente and the Camerata Brindis de Salas and entered the Teatro Nacional of Santo Domingo in 2002 Concert with José Carreras and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Santo Domingo .

His repertoire includes a. the Concierto Andaluz and Fantasía para un Gentilhombre by Joaquín Rodrigo , the guitar concerts by Mauro Giuliani and Heitor Villa-Lobos , the Concierto Elegiaco and other works by Leo Brouwer , as well as the Concerto Dominicano and the Concierto Peravia by Román Peña .
