Efraín Amador

Efraín Amador Piñeiro (born June 15, 1947 in Chambas ) is a Cuban lutenist, composer and music teacher.

Amador was a student of Isaac Nicola at the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán and at the Escuela Nacional de Arte . With his wife, the pianist Doris Oropesa , he founded the Dúo Amanecer in 1970 . He worked as a tres and lute player, composer and music teacher in Camagüey and then took over the chair for guitar at the Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana.

From 1978 to 1981 he completed postgraduate studies with Leo Brouwer at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) . He then attended courses in composition with Antonio Lauro and Alirio Díaz , orchestration and contemporary music with José Ardévol and music analysis with José Loyola and Roberto Valera . He took part in all of the contemporary music festivals of the Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba and began his international career as a soloist in 1981 with performances in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Since 1983, Amador and his wife have been doing music-ethnological research in Cuba. From 1989 both organized lute and tres lessons in Cuba at middle and university level. In 1999 Amador took on a teaching position at the Centro Nacional de Música de Conciertos . With his daughters Ariadna and Amanecer Amador he recorded the album Cubanías in 1990 . Amador also published a guitar school and a book on the lute and tres in Cuba.
