Isaac Nicola

Isaac Noel Nicola Romero (born April 11, 1916 in Havana ; † July 14, 1997 there ) was a Cuban guitarist and music teacher .

Life

Nicola studied guitar with his mother Clara Romero and in 1937 with Emilio Pujol in Paris. He researched the Spanish plucked instrument vihuela in Paris, London, Madrid, Barcelona and New York. He has given concerts and taught at home and abroad. In 1951 he became professor of guitar at the Conservatorio Municipal de La Habana, where he worked for almost fifty years and was its director. Nicola was the teacher of several well-known Cuban guitarists, such as Leo Brouwer .
