Aldo Rodríguez (guitarist)

Aldo Rodríguez Delgado (born July 8, 1955 in Havana ) is a Cuban guitarist, composer and music teacher.

Rodríguez attended the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán (1960–66), the Escuela Nacional de Arte (1966–73) and was from 1976 to 1981 a student of Isaac Nicola and Marta Cuervo . He completed postgraduate studies in guitar, counterpoint, harmony, music theory and history and attended master classes by Alirio Díaz , María Luisa Anido and Frank Fernández . He also studied English and French at the Escuela de Idiomas Abraham Lincoln in Havana.

As a music teacher, Rodríguez taught at the Escuela Elemental de Música in Holguín (1966–68), the Escuela Nacional de Música (1968–73) and the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Cartagena and gave master classes in Chile, France, Poland and Mexico. At the international guitar competition in Esztergom in 1973 he won first prize, and third prizes at the competitions in Venezuela (1979), Cuba (1982) and Italy (1983). With his album De Bach a Brouwer he won the Cubadisco Prize in 2002 as a solo concert guitarist. The Cuban government awarded him the Medalla por la Cultura Nacional and the Medalla Alejo Carpentier (2003).
