The Rubik R-25 Mokány is a Hungarian high-performance standard class glider . In Hungarian, Mokány describes a compact, stocky, "beefy" person.
history
The R-25 was developed by Ernő Rubik at the Esztergom aircraft factory in the late 1950s and, with its predecessors, the R-23 Gébics and R-24 Bibic, marks the transition from wood to all-metal construction in Hungarian glider construction. Like other Rubik glider designs, it also had some individual construction features, such as the shape of the fuselage bow or that of the air brakes , for which the designer had received a total of three world patents. The prototype completed its first flight, with the registration number HA-4300 , on September 29, 1960. For 1961, the construction of 20 copies for use as a performance glider for the Hungarian flying clubs was planned, but it ultimately stayed with this copy. Only the wings were used together with the fuselage of the R-27 Kópé to develop the E-31 Esztergom .
construction
The R-25 is a cantilevered shoulder -wing aircraft in all-metal shell construction. The rear fuselage section consists of a riveted tubular aluminum fuselage, a Rubik patent. The nose of the fuselage also has a typical Rubik design feature with the torsional wing nose planking made of self-supporting corrugated sheet metal. A third invention he has implemented in this model is the fold-out "bat" air brakes integrated into the sides of the fuselage on both sides behind the pilot's cabin. The wings are metal-clad up to the spar and covered with fabric behind and equipped with split ailerons. The tail unit is V-shaped with a 90 ° opening and half covered with metal and fabric. The chassis consists of a non-retractable main wheel with rubber suspension and a skid.
