The Esztergom E-31 , nicknamed Esztergom, is a Hungarian glider produced in the 1960s that was used as a single-seater exercise for the standard class .

development

The E-31 was developed at the Esztergom aircraft factory in the first half of the 1960s. For the construction, the fuselage of the R-27 Kópé and the structure of the R-25 Mokány were adopted, both types that were designed by Ernő Rubik , which is why the design is sometimes referred to as the Rubik E-31. In the draft, some changes were incorporated, for example, were wings with DFS - dive brakes fitted. The first flight took place on March 21, 1966 and in the same year a first pilot series of five aircraft designated as R-254 was built and handed over to some Hungarian aero clubs for testing purposes. They received good ratings, which is why series production began in Esztergom from the end of 1966, which comprised a total of 50 E-31s. Some E-31 are still airworthy or are shown in exhibitions like the HA-3417 in the Transport Museum in Budapest .

construction

The E-31 is a cantilevered shoulder- wing aircraft with a hull in metal half-shell construction , which is planked with aluminum in the upper area and covered with fabric in the lower area. The cabin cover consists of a blown plexiglass hood that can be folded to the right . The single-spar wings are equipped with gap ailerons and DFS dive brakes and have corrugated iron planking from the leading edge to the height of the spar and fabric covering behind. The tail unit is of normal construction, self-supporting and completely made of metal. The chassis consists of a rigid main wheel in the center of gravity and a tail spur.
