Rubinette is a juicy, crunchy and delicately sour tasting apple variety grown primarily by direct marketers , but comparatively small-fruited . Rubinette is a free flowering (actually a random seedling ) of the mother variety Golden Delicious and the father variety Cox Orange . In terms of aroma, it is very similar to Cox Orange and can therefore also be used as a table apple .

The variety was created in 1966 and has been on the market since 1982. Rubinette is under plant variety protection .

The apples of the Rubinette variety are greenish-yellow in color, with orange-red stripes on the sunny side. It is noticeable that the stem sits in a very short recess in the fruit. Harvested are the apples from the end of September, they are ready to eat without storage. In warm summers, the harvest often takes place too late because the apples are not yet colored when ripe.

The tree becomes medium-sized and prefers good soil, even at medium altitudes. There is a high susceptibility to scab and a susceptibility to fruit tree cancer and monilinia, and a low susceptibility to powdery mildew .

The variety grows well in all forms of cultivation, including espalier fruit and potted plants, but in comparison to other garden and house apples it requires intensive care and is prone to disease.

Common mutants are the particularly brightly colored Rubinette Rossa and the Early Rubinette, which ripens a little earlier.

This variety is suitable for allergy sufferers .
