Ruby & the Romantics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ruby & The Romantics was an American singing group formed in Akron , Ohio , in the early 1960s .

history

Edward Roberts (first tenor), George Lee (second tenor), Ronald Moseley (baritone) and Leroy Fann (bass) sang together under the name The Supremes in the late 1950s . Then heard Allen Stanton, a record producer from Kapp Records , the group, brought them together with the singer Ruby Nash (born June 15, 1934 in Akron, Ohio) and renamed the group. The debut single "Our Day Will Come" , released by the US record company Kapp under catalog number 501, was already a number one hit . The title was composed and written by Bob Hilliard and Mort Garson, and produced by Allen Stanton.

The two following singles “My Summer Love” (1963, number 14) and “Hey There Lonely Boy” (1963, number 27) also landed at the top of the single charts, but the other singles, all of them on the label Kapp and which were produced by Allen Stanton until the end of 1964, only landed at the bottom of the Billboards Hot 100 . For the last time they reached a placement on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1965 with "Does He Really Care For Me" (# 87).

During their career Ruby & the Romantics released several albums, but only "Our Day Will Come" was able to place in the US album charts at number 120 for a short time.

Numerous Ruby and the Romantics titles were covered in later years. Eddie Holman reached number 2 in the charts and number four in the R&B charts with “Hey There Lonely Girl” in 1970. In 1967 the Marvelettes had a top hit with "(When You're) Young And In Love" , which made it to number 23 in the US charts and number 9 in the R&B charts. The Carpenters came in 1972 with the track "Hurting Each Other" at number 2 on the US charts. Her big hit "Our Day Will Come" made it to number 11 in the version by Frankie Valli in 1975.
