Rowing Society Zeltingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rudergesellschaft Zeltingen was founded in 1927. The founding father was, among others, the rowing pioneer Hein Salzmann , who was also involved in founding other rowing clubs on the Moselle (including rowing club Zell 1921 ). After the Second World War, the current boathouse was built below the Moselle bridge in the 1950s. To this day (2009) it is the core of the club's life and houses the club's boat park.

The rowing society Zeltingen is a rather small club with just over 100 members and is disadvantaged in water training due to the regular flooding of the Moselle in winter. Nevertheless, the club has produced some successful rowers: Irmi Griebeler , Elisabeth Reis and currently the brothers Matthias and Jost Schömann-Finck are the most famous athletes. The two became world champions together in 2009. Jost Schömann-Finck qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In addition to working with these athletes, the club's work focuses on popular and youth sports. Together with the Bernkasteler rowing club, the rowing society Zeltingen organizes the international long-distance regatta for the “Green Moselle Cup”. The current (2009) chairman of the rowing society in Zeltingen is Stefan Schömann-Finck.
