The Rudi-Geil-Brücke is a bridge over the Lahn in Lahnstein . The road bridge, first built in 1873, connects the two districts of Nieder- and Oberlahnstein . It is named after the Lahnstein politician Rudi Geil .
history
A first permanent road bridge was built over the Lahn in 1873 to connect the then still independent towns of Ober- and Niederlahnstein. This was replaced by a concrete bridge in 1927 . After the destruction in World War II , the bridge was rebuilt as an iron arch bridge in 1946/1947 . The aging bridge was closed to heavy traffic in 1992 and had to be replaced by a new building in 1997. The Lahnstein city council decided on February 14, 2008 to name the bridge after the Lahnstein politician Rudi Geil.
