The fallen Rudolf von Bennigsen oak

The Rudolf von Bennigsen Oak was a natural monument in the Bennigsen district of the city of Springe in the Hanover region .

The more than 250-year-old sessile oak (Quercus petraea) stood on the southern edge of the forest of the Süllberg north of Bennigsen. The tree was named in August 1911 on the occasion of the 600th anniversary celebrations of von Bennigsen after the politician Rudolf von Bennigsen who died in Bennigsen in 1902 .

The Rudolf von Bennigsen oak was registered as a natural monument under the number H 147 "Sessile oak" (so-called "von Bennigsen oak") in the ordinance on natural monuments in the Hanover region. On April 6, 2007, this ordinance was repealed for the completely dead tree, which was infested by the giant sporling, for reasons of traffic safety .

The tree was struck by lightning in a storm at the end of January 2013, fell and broke.

In 2015, fragments of the tree and the associated memorial stone could still be found on the Süllberg.
