Rudolf Casagrande (* 1942 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian artist .

Casagrande completed his training in Innsbruck at the HTL trade school. He then joined the professional association of visual artists in Frankfurt, where he became a member of the artist group Klosterpresse in the former Carmelite monastery. The monastery press put its emphasis on graphic work, especially lithographs and etchings. During this time he received the commission for the annual gift of the Frankfurter Kunstverein . In order to secure his livelihood as an artist, he began studying civil engineering in Berlin and Munich, which he graduated with a degree in engineering.

After completing his studies, he spent a long time in Zaire, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon and undertook short study trips to the Middle East and Asia. During his stay in Zaire in 1975, due to a lack of available canvas, he started the series Alternative Painting Grounds , in which he used sacks of flour and coffee as painting grounds.

In 2002 he was a city draftsman in Krems / Lower Austria in the city museum and the art gallery Krems at the invitation of the city of Krems and the state of Lower Austria. Casagrande's solo exhibitions were shown in the Gasteig Munich, in the Kunsthalle Nassereith and in various galleries.

  • Alternative painting grounds. (Sacks of flour and coffee sacks are bleached for different lengths of time or tinted with an oxidizing agent in a complex procedure with the help of stencils, depending on the brightness)
