Rudolf Gunz

Rudolf Gunz (born December 11, 1897 in Hard ; † April 28, 1986 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( NSDAP ) and municipal official. He was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1932 to 1933 and mayor of Hard from 1938 to 1945.

education and profession

Rudolf Gunz first attended the elementary school in Hard and then completed the commercial advanced training school. Between 1912 and 1915 he worked as an embroidery draftsman and between 1915 and 1918 during the First World War he did his military service with the 3rd Regiment of the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger . After his return from the war, he worked from 1920 to 1945 as a clerk or municipal official at the market town of Hard.

Politics and functions

Gunz became involved as a member of the National Socialist Schulz movement from 1929 and joined the NSDAP in November 1930. He subsequently worked for a short time as the local group leader of the NSDAP in the Hard community and as a group speaker. In terms of local politics, he held the position of a member of the Hard municipal council from 1929 to 1933, and on 22 November 1932 he was sworn in as a member of the Bregenz electoral district in the Vorarlberg state parliament. On July 9, 1933, he renounced his mandate in the state parliament, as the office of the Vorarlberg state government issued a decree on July 4, 1933 stating that community employees were prohibited from belonging to the NSDAP. In order not to endanger his economic existence, he then dissolved his membership in the NSDAP and resigned from the state parliament.

After the National Socialists came to power, Gunz took over the position of Mayor of Hard on the day of the Anschluss , which he held until the end of the war on May 2, 1945. Because of his political past, he was arrested on June 13, 1945 and taken to a police prison, where he remained imprisoned until 1947. On February 3, 1948, he was sentenced by the People's Court in Innsbruck to 20 months of heavy imprisonment and deprivation of property.

In addition to his political activities, Gunz was a member and honorary member of the Beautification and Transport Association Hard as well as a member and chronicler of the fishing association.

Private

Rudolf Gunz was born the son of the Hard carpenter Johann Karl Gunz. His mother, Scholastika Briemle, came from Saugau . He married Hildegard Somweber, who was born in Tyrol in Salzburg in 1924, and had a daughter in 1926.
