Rudolf Stokvis

Rudolf "Ruud" Stokvis (born April 24, 1943 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch rower .

The 1.90 m tall Rudolf Stokvis from Nereus Amsterdam won the bronze medal in the four without a helmsman at the rowing world championships in 1966 together with Maarten Kloosterman , Roelof Luynenburg and Eric Niehe . Two years later, Stokvis and Luynenburg competed at the 1968 Olympic Games in two without a helmsman and achieved sixth place. The greatest success of their athletic careers came at the 1972 Olympic Games when they won the bronze medal behind the two-men from the GDR and Switzerland.

Even after completing his sociology studies, Stokvis stayed at the University of Amsterdam , where he held a lectureship. He has published various books on sociological subjects and on sports. In addition to his university career, he also remained connected to the student rowing club Nereus as a trainer.
