history

In 1933 Rudolf Wöhrl founded a shop for men's and boys' clothing, which he called Zetka (reliable clothing). The Wöhrl office building was completely destroyed in the air raids on Nuremberg on January 2, 1945. In Roth near Nuremberg, Wöhrl started again with his wife Berta - he had suits, coats and trousers made from uniforms, blankets and tarpaulins. In 1949 he founded the 60 square meter parent company at the White Tower in Nuremberg , which today is known as “Wöhrl-City” and is one of the largest fashion and sports stores in Germany.

In the 1950s, Wöhrl opened branches in Regensburg and Erlangen. In the following years the business expanded further. 1970 Wöhrl transferred the company to his sons Hans Rudolf Wöhrl and Gerhard Wöhrl . In 2002 the company was converted into a family company. Since January 1, 2012, Olivier Wöhrl has been the third generation of the entrepreneurial family in the management of Rudolf Wöhrl AG.

At the beginning of 2013 it was reported that Rudolf Wöhrl AG was taking over SinnLeffers . Ultimately, however, SinnLeffers was taken over by the Gerhard Wöhrl family , who in turn owned the majority of the shares in Wöhrl AG. The takeover and adjustment of both companies was considered complete at the end of 2014.

On September 6, 2016, protective shield proceedings for corporate restructuring were initiated. The fashion retail company now has up to three months for a restructuring plan. At the same time, the previous chairman of the supervisory board, Andreas E. Mach, was appointed the company's new chairman with immediate effect. On October 6, 2016, it was announced that Wöhrl is closing four branches, including Roth, the first post-war location. A total of 146 employees are affected.

In a bidding process, Rudolf Wöhrl's grandson Christian Greiner, CEO of Ludwig Beck AG , won the bid and acquired all of the remaining branches in May 2017. The employees were kept busy. Greiner was supported by his father Hans Rudolf Wöhrl as a partner in the Intro Group. Operations will continue as Rudolf Wöhrl SE .

A good year after the takeover, Rudolf Wöhrl SE was able to report back in the black.
