Sharmaine Ruffa Rama Gutierrez-Bektaş , better known under the name Ruffa Gutierrez (born June 24, 1974 in Manila ), is a Filipino actress , model and former beauty queen . She took second place in the 1993 Miss World election . The daughter of the Spanish-Filipino actor Eddie Guitierrez and the actress Anabelle Rama starred in over 50 Filipino films.

Life

In 2003 she married the Turkish businessman Yılmaz Bektaş in Manila . In 2003 and 2004 she gave birth to two legitimate daughters and lived with them in Istanbul for a number of years, although she regularly returned home to the Philippines to do business, be on TV, or spend vacations there.

In vain did she ask her husband to give her access to television so that she could continue to work. On May 8, 2007, Gutierrez and Bektaş published their mutual decision to end their four-year marriage. On June 9-10 , 2007, she told GMA-7's Startalk that she had been physically tortured and abused by Bektaş while she was in Turkey. According to her, this is the reason why she is getting a divorce. Gutierrez also revealed that she was supposed to be electrocuted in the bathroom, beaten for 15 hours continuously, and locked in a closet. Bektaş admitted that he knew she was married to her previous husband when they first met, but denies having tortured her. Gutierrez, who converted to Islam during her wedding with Bektaş , returned to the Roman Catholic Church on her return to the Philippines .

TV career

In 2002, before her marriage to Bektaş, Ruffa Gutierrez was a GMA-7 talent. She had three regular shows on GMA Network. She was also presenter and host of Philippines' Next Top Model at RPN-9. She was also a guest on several other programs.
