Rugby Football League
The Rugby Football League (RFL) , founded in 1895 as Northern Rugby Football Union , or Northern Union (NU) for short , is an English rugby league association that is used today for the English national team , as well as for almost the entire professional rugby league. Sports in the Northern Hemisphere is responsible. The RFL and the British Amateur Rugby League Association have been responsible for the amateur and youth sector in England since the 1970s . In addition to the Australian and New Zealanders, the association is the leader in the league code, which was just created when the then Northern Union was split off from the Rugby Football Union . Until the introduction of the Super League in 1996, the English championship organized by the association was also called the Rugby Football League . The RFL is traditionally an all-British association and is responsible for the British national rugby league team . In recent years, however, separate associations have formed in Wales, Scotland and Ireland, so that the RFL concentrates more on England, where the association is mainly represented in the north of England , its seat is Leeds .

The association was formed in 1895 when 20 clubs from Northern England resigned from the association because of their dissatisfaction with the regulation by the RFU and on August 29, 1895 in the George Hotel , Huddersfield, founded their own association, the Northern Rugby Football Union . Two more clubs joined up until the first regular meeting of the association. The association remained limited to northern England until well into the 20th century, despite some efforts to expand into Wales and some quickly failing foundings in London. It was not until the establishment of a league team by Fulham FC (after several renaming, the league club is now called Harlequins Rugby League ) in 1980 for a sustained presence outside the home area. Since the Super League was founded, clubs from Wales and France have also been added.
In 1948 the RFL was a founding member of the Rugby League International Federation , 2003/04 also the Rugby League European Federation . The RFL has participated in all previous world championships with either the British or the English selection.
