Ruhsar Pekcan

Ruhsar Pekcan (* 1958 in Manisa ) is a Turkish electrical engineer, entrepreneur and Minister of Commerce of the Republic of Turkey since July 2018 .

Life

Ruhsar Pekcan studied electrical engineering at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi , where he earned a bachelor's and master's degree.

From 1981, Pekcan worked at the development bank Türkiye Sınai Kalkınma Bankası and in the following years switched to private companies, on whose boards she also sat. In 2005, she and others founded a company to build pipes for drinking water, irrigation, oil and gas. She was the company's managing director.

Ruhsar Pekcan was chairman of the Turkish-Syrian economic council of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce DEİK as well as chairwoman of the Turkish-Jordanian economic council and member of the board of the Turkish-Iraqi and Turkish-Libyan economic councils of DEİK. She also served as vice-chair of the Committee of Women Entrepreneurs of the Union of Chambers and Stock Exchanges of Turkey and a member of the Committee of Women Entrepreneurs of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.

Pekcan received the IWEC Award in 2010 and is an ambassador for the IWEC Foundation, which advocates the interests of women entrepreneurs worldwide.

On July 9, 2018, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed her to his new cabinet and appointed her Minister of Commerce.

Pekcan is married and has two children.
