Runestone from Larvs Hed

The runestone of Larvs Hed (also called Gunnar Sigtrygssons sten ; Samnordisk runtextdatabas Vg 127) stands on Larvs Heide, about 50 meters south of Borgavägen between Larv and Edsvära and about two kilometers east of Larvs kyrka in the municipality of Vara in Västergötland in Sweden .

The Runenstein of granite is 2.5 m, 1.5-1.8 m wide and 0.4-0.5 m thick. On the southwest side 0.1-0.3 m from the edge there is a flat serpentine band with a large ring cross with palmette-like figures between the arms and some runes outside and inside the loop in the lower corners. The rune height is about 15 cm.

The translation is: “Ölver and Åskatla built this stone for Gunnar, Sigtrygg's son, a good young man. God the Lord protect his soul. "

In 1529 the stone was used by rebellious nobles as a lectern at the so-called “Västgötaherrarnas uppror”, who urged Gustav Vasa to overthrow in order to prevent the Lutheran Reformation .
