RUNGIS express is a food wholesaler in Meckenheim near Bonn , which supplies its customers, mainly from the upscale gastronomy , with food from all over the world.

The name refers to the Paris wholesale market in Rungis , where most of the goods were initially bought. Through numerous television reports on various channels, the company has also achieved a general level of awareness outside of the catering trade.

history

Rungis Express was founded in 1978 by Karl-Heinz Wolf, a Bonn restaurateur. In 1980 Georg Kastner (called "George W. Kastner") joined and in 1986 took over sole management of the company. The shares of Wolf were taken over by Kaufhof AG , which was later taken over by Metro AG . In 1997 the company sold its shares to an investment bank. On January 19, 2005, RUNGIS express had to file for bankruptcy after several years of falling sales and large losses . Kastner left and RUNGIS express was taken over by Ponaxis AG via the subsidiary Cool Chain Group (CCG) and continued as an AG (previously GmbH & Co. KG ). Half of all jobs (approx. 150) were cut.

In April 2016, Rungis Express AG , the logistics business of Cool Chain Group DE GmbH , CC Delivery GmbH , the Swiss subsidiary Fideco AG and the company's activities in Austria, Poland, Portugal and Spain were taken over by the Metro Group .

Products

Today, shopping is no longer restricted to the Rungis market. More than 3,000 products from over 80 countries make up the basic range of RUNGIS express.
