Evangelical Mission

Rupara, like Olukonda , was originally founded as a Finnish mission station , from which the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ECLIN) later emerged. In 1931 the missionary Aatu Järvinen founded the mission as an offshoot of the one in Nkurenkuru that had been founded two years earlier . He built the mission building, a clinic and four round huts. The first missionary was Anna Rautaheimo , who worked as a nurse. By 1935 the clinic had already looked after 100 patients. The teacher Maija Länsiö took care of the development of an education system for the Uukwangali .
