The Filialkirche St. Rupert , also Rupertikirche , named after St. Rupert of Salzburg , is located in Hohenrain , municipality of Hart bei Graz , directly on the city limits of Graz (ninth municipality district Waltendorf ) near the Lustbühel Castle . As a branch church it belongs to the parish Graz-St. Peter in the dean's office Graz-Süd of the city church Graz .

History and design

In 1960, according to the plans of the architect Eberhardt Jäger, a simple building that blends in well with the surroundings was built. In an early post-modernist style , he quotes the design of the Romanesque fortified churches in Styria.

The large glass window above the chancel was designed by the Styrian artist Rudolf Szyszkowitz , representative of Styrian modernism , and shows St. Rupert of Salzburg, to whom the church is consecrated. The design of the small window on the entrance wall with the representation of a rooster, the saint's attribute of Peter, the patron of the city parish, comes from the same artist. The Secco painting on the outer wall by Adolf Osterider also shows the church patron.

The current pastor of the church is P. Leo Thenner SDS , deputy dean of the Graz-Süd dean's office.
