Rusa (son of Erimena)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rusa , son of Erimena ( Rusa Erimenaḫi ), conventionally as Rusa III. called, was a Urartian king. He was the son of Erimena . His rule is usually around 605–585 BC. BC.

Domination

It is not certain whether his father Erimena was king himself, the name is otherwise not recorded in the Urartian royal family, which some researchers see as evidence of usurpation. He used what is known as a prince's seal, which does not mention his father's name. It bears the inscription m] E- [r] i.me-n [an] é? Rusa itself, on the other hand, again bears a traditional royal name.

Since the order of the kings after Rusa II is unclear, Rusa, son of Erimena, was not given a number here. However, he is sometimes called Rusa III. guided.

Rusā Erimenaḫi describes himself on the stele of Keşiş Gölü as the servant of Ḫaldi and calls Ḫaldi his master ( EN-si ), who raised him to the throne, who placed the scepter in his hand. Overall, he creates a much more personal reference to Haldi in the text than is shown in other royal inscriptions, and which is reminiscent of Old Testament psalms.

Çilingiroğlu wants to make Rusa Erimenaḫi the successor to Argišti Rusaḫini, usually from Argišti II. Rusa Argištiḫi (usually counted as Rusa II) would then be his successor.

buildings

Rusa created before the mountain Qilbani (presumably Zımzımdağ ), where the earth was without form before, cornfields and Wingert . He let orchards and canals for irrigation create and created the reservoir Keşiş Gölü Rusa Lake, m ru-sa-ai SU [e] , which still exists today to the water supply of Tuspa sure. Through this lake grain fields, orchards and vineyards could be planted, it created abundance. The archaeologically recorded reservoirs of Köşebaşı, Kurubaşı and Sihke also irrigate the land in front of Mount Qilbani. As Çilingiroğlu emphasizes, this description does not fit well into the picture of the general Urartean decline after Rusa II that is usually drawn.

Inscriptions

Rusa is also documented on dedicatory inscriptions from shields from Toprakkale (British Museum No. 22481). An undecorated shield with the repair of the shield shackles from the Clayton excavation is in the British Museum. It bears the following dedication: “For d Haldi, the Lord. Rusa, son of Erimena, has consecrated this shield for his future life. By the power of d Haldis [I am] Rusa, son of Erimena, the great king, ruler of the city of Tušpa ”. Afif Erzen and Emin Bilgiq found during excavations between 1959 and 1961 in Toprakkale a bronze shield with concentric lion and bull friezes, which also bore a votive inscription from Rusa.
