Russell Island is an uninhabited island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago in the Qikiqtaaluk region of the Nunavut Territory of Canada . It's on Barrow Strait . It is separated from the north coast of Prince of Wales Island by the narrow Baring Channel .
The island has an area of 940 km². The highest point on the island is 248 m. The western third of the island is separated from the remaining two thirds by a narrow lake and its drain. At the northern end of the lake there is an isthmus only 1.1 km wide.
William Edward Parry discovered the island in 1819.
