Russell Trall

Russell Thacher Trall (* 1812 ; † 1877 ) was an American alternative doctor .

Life

Trall founded the Hygieo-Therapeutic College in New York in 1852 . This institute was the first of its kind to give women and men equal training, and around a third of the students there were women. Trall's students included John Harvey Kellogg .

Trall's doctrines were influenced by Sylvester Graham and Isaac Jennings . He also referred to Genesis when he advocated a vegetarian diet.

His preferred supportive measures were a vegetarian diet, hydrotherapy and massage .

During the Civil War , Trall taught at the Smithsonian Institution, which was popular . He published numerous books and eventually became Vice President of the American Vegetarian Society.

Trall's influences were evident in the 20th century with Herbert Shelton .
