Russian Circles is an American post-rock and metal band that formed in 2004 in Chicago , Illinois .

history

Russian Circles at the Roadburn Festival 2015

Russian Circles was founded in 2004 by guitarist Mike Sullivan, bassist Colin DeKuiper and drummer Dave Turncrantz. 2005 saw their first release in the form of a self-titled EP. The debut album Enter was released in spring 2006 on the Flameshovel label . After appearing at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin , Texas and a short US tour with Minus the Bear and Chin Up Chin Up , DeKuiper split from his colleagues in 2007. The bassist position was filled with Brian Cook ( Botch , These Arms Are Snakes ). The remodeled trio produced the 2008 album Station for their new label Suicide Squeeze , directed by Matt Bayles, best known for his work with Isis . The third plant followed in Geneva in October 2009 . In 2011 the band signed a contract with Sargent House Records , where in the same year the long player Empros came out, produced by Brandon Curtis like its predecessor. On the title track of Memorial (2013) Chelsea Wolfe can be heard as a guest singer.

In August 2016 they released their sixth studio album Guidance on the Sargent House label. It was produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou . The seventh studio album Blood Year followed in 2019.

The band plays complex post-rock, which is mostly instrumental .
