Russian State Archives for Socio-Political History

The Russian State Archives for Socio-Political History ( RGASPI ; Russian Российский государственный архив социально-политической истории, РГАСПИ ) in Moscow is the main socialist history archive of Russia .

The collection of documents emerged from the central party archive of the Institute for Marxism-Leninism and is based on the files of the CPSU (before 1953), its predecessors and the Komsomol . It contains documents from pre-revolutionary Bolshevik parties and libraries from emigration during the Tsarist era, including Marx , Engels , the RSDRP , the First , Second and Third Internationals, and the Cominform .

Personal papers of Bolshevik leaders like Dzerzhinsky , Kalinin , Kamenew , Stalin and others as well as RSDRP leaders like Martov , Plekhanov and Axelrod are stored here.

The archive has an extensive audiovisual collection of Lenin and the party conferences from 1922 to 1976. Some documents from the Comintern, the Politburo and the international department of the CPSU, as well as from private individuals, are not accessible.

Files from the period after 1953 are in the State Archives for Contemporary History RGANI, important documents also in the Presidential Archives .
