There are several thousand Russian-speaking population groups in Austria .

There are 5500 citizens of Russian descent living in Austria , most of them in Vienna and Salzburg .

There has been a Russian community in Vienna since the 17th century. The first Russians came to Austria to trade and receive education. In the 1920s, the community grew rapidly due to the Russian civil war . Many Russians came in the 1990s as scientists and athletes.
