Rustem Ikramowitsch Mambetov

Rustem Ikramowitsch Mambetow ( Russian Рустем Икрамович Мамбетов ; English transcription Rustem Mambetov ; born July 15, 1973 ) is a former Russian wrestler . He won a medal in the Greco-Roman style at the European Championships in 2002 and 2003, both in the featherweight division .

Career

Rustem Mambetow began wrestling as a teenager in 1988. He entered the army as an adult and became a member of the Army Sports Club in St. Petersburg . He focused on the Greco-Roman style and was mainly trained by Gregori Daniljan. He mostly wrestled in featherweight, but also trained in bantamweight in some important competitions . After his active time, he trained as a sports teacher.

After some good placements in the Russian championship and in international tournaments, he was used in 1997 at the European championship in Kouvola / Finland in bantamweight. He won there against Christos Gikas, Greece and Aigars Jansons, Latvia, but then lost against the more experienced Karen Mnazakanjan , Armenia and Marian Sandu , Romania, each with just 3: 4 points, which brought him to 9th place.

In 1999 he took part in the World Military Games in Zagreb, where he won the bantamweight title ahead of Kang Kyung-il , South Korea, Roman Waschuk, Ukraine and Pasi Huhtala, Finland. Rustem Mambetov had no cjance in 2000 to qualify for the Olympic Games in Sydney. He already failed in the inner-Russian elimination. Olympic champion was there in featherweight his countryman Warteres Samurgaschew .

His next assignment was in 2002. He took part in the European featherweight championship that year in Seinäjoki / Finland, where he won over Laszlo Bona, Hungary, Iwan Alexandrow, Israel, Eduard Kratz, Germany, Marko Ilasi Isokoski, Finland and Djamal Ainaoui, France. In the final he faced the Olympic champion and multiple world champion Armen Nazarjan from Ukraine, against whom he held up very well and only lost with 2: 5 points. He became vice European champion. In the same year he was also used at the World Cup in Moscow, where he came in featherweight victories over Juri Dubinin, Belarus and Hugo Passos da Silva, Portugal. However, after a loss to Roberto Monzon Gonzalez , Cuba, he was eliminated and came in 10th place.

Rustem Mambetov won a medal again at the 2003 European Championships in Belgrade. He defeated there featherweight Hugo Passos da Silva, Paolo Fucile, Italy, Djamal Ainaoui and Alexander Sliwinski, Belarus, before losing to Suren Geworkjan , Ukraine, and thus missed the finals.

After that, he did not come to any further assignments at international championships.
