The Rutan SkiGull is a single-engine, two-seat amphibious aircraft built by Burt Rutan with registration N375BT.
history
After two years of development, Burt Rutan presented the draft of his privately developed trimaran - amphibious aircraft to the public at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh at the end of July 2015 . The aircraft - Rutan's 47th aircraft design - flew for the first time on November 24, 2015 at Coeur d'Alene Airfield . The sale of kits or detailed plans for amateur construction is planned.
construction
The saltwater-proof, fiber-reinforced high- wing aircraft made using titanium has hinged, 14.32 m spanning, braced wings with a Fowler flap. Two electrically driven folding propellers on the wings are used to maneuver on the water and can support the main Rotax 912iS engine during take-off. Two runners that can be retracted into the fuselage should allow take-offs and landings in rough seas . Wheels on the runners enable take-off and landing on about 120 m long slopes. The T-tail has a pendulum elevator with flettner trim. The crew sits one behind the other with their backs to one another under hinged covers made of acrylic glass . In the course of the flight tests, the landing gear arrangement was changed to a nose landing gear: Instead of the original four small wheels in two runners, there has been an additional nose runner since 2017, which, like the runners on the booms, is now equipped with a large wheel each.
