Rutger II (Kleve)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rutger II is considered to be the second Count of Kleve , but historically it is difficult to grasp.

In 1061 a Rutger is mentioned as Vogt of the Cologne monastery of St. Maria ad Gradus . Since the bailiwick of the monastery was apparently connected to the Tomburg , and the Counts of Kleve can be proven to have been Lords of Tomburg since the end of the 11th century, this Rutger is considered to be Count of Kleve, but who is probably no longer identical with Rutger I. . , the presumed first Count of Kleve. It is possible that Rutger is identical to a Rutger mentioned in 1051 and 1057 in the vicinity of the Archbishops of Cologne .
