Tomáš Pospíchal (born June 26, 1936 in Pudlov, today a district of Bohumín , † October 21, 2003 in Prague ) was a Czech football player and football coach . With Czechoslovakia he was runner- up in 1962 .

Club career

Tomáš Pospíchal began playing football with Zejda Přerov, but soon moved to the larger SK Přerov. When his family moved to Telč , he played for the local club Sokol. After a short time the family returned to North Moravia and Pospíchal joined Baník Ostrava , which was then still called Sokol OKD Ostrava.

After only one season, the striker moved to Baník Vítkovice , where he was already used as a 16-year-old with a special permit in the 2nd Czechoslovak League.

Pospíchal moved to the Tankista Prague Army Association in 1955 to do his military service there. The team was delegated to Pardubice after one season and played there as Dukla Pardubice .

In 1957 Pospíchal returned to Ostrava and played there until 1964. In early 1965 he moved to Sparta Prague , where he immediately won the championship. He was able to repeat this success two years later.

At the age of 32, the right full-back went abroad and joined the French FC Rouen . Pospíchal, who also works as a player- coach in Rouen , ended his career in 1971.

In the first Czechoslovak league Pospíchal completed 239 games and scored 70 goals.

National team

In the Czechoslovak national team Tomáš Pospíchal made his debut on April 21, 1956, Czechoslovakia separated from Brazil goalless.

In 1962 he drove to the World Cup in Chile . In the group games he only sat on the bench, from the quarterfinals he was part of the starting eleven. In the final against Brazil he prepared the Czechoslovak leadership through Josef Masopust , but ultimately the Brazilians got the upper hand 3-1.

Pospíchal made his last of a total of 26 international matches on May 30, 1965, when Czechoslovakia lost 1-0 to Romania in Bucharest .

Trainer

After his return from France Pospíchal took over the fourth division club TJ Břevnov. As early as 1972 he became a coach at his former club Baník Ostrava and led him to win the Czechoslovak Cup in his first season . From 1975 to 1977 he was the coach of Škoda Pilsen , then he coached FC Bohemians Prague for ten years , where he became a legend.

In the 1982/83 season he won the only championship title for Bohemians to date. Even then, however, Pospíchal was struggling with heart problems. He suffered several heart attacks and had to give up the management of the team for a short time. In the 1983/84 season he even missed the first eight games due to health problems.

His last station was in the season 1987/88 Slavia Prague .

In 1992, with the help of the journalist and author Vladimír Zemánek, he brought out an autobiography entitled Fotbal nemá logiku (German: Football has no logic ), which is also a quotation attributed to him.
