Ruth Albitz

Ruth Albitz-Geiß born Geiss (* 2. June 1924 in Berlin , † unknown) was a German graphic - designer .

Professional background

From 1942 to 1946 Ruth Albitz-Geiß received a commercial graphic training in various Berlin studios , from 1946 to 1949 she studied at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin .

Together with her husband Hans Adolf Albitz, she worked as a freelance graphic designer in Berlin from 1949 - mainly in the field of culture. The couple regularly won competitions and received numerous awards. When her husband died in 1969, she lost a large part of her clients, so she had to reorient herself professionally. In the following years Albitz established herself as a teacher.

An article in the magazine Nutzgraphik from 1952 not only describes the collaboration, but also reflects the gender stereotypes of the 1950s: “The success of the couple's collaboration is based on the law of polarity […]. Hans Adolf Albitz is the structural engineer, the cool and calculating formative, [...] Ruth Albitz-Geiß, on the other hand, prefers the painterly elements, the colorful, bloody and broadly depicted. "
