Ruth Lamsbach

Ruth Lamsbach (* 1950 in Bochum ) is a former German disabled athlete and multiple participant and medal winner at Paralympic Games .

Career

Ruth Lamsbach was paralyzed by a back operation at the age of 14 and was henceforth confined to a wheelchair. Since she still wanted to do competitive sports, she became a member of the Post SV, where she first played swimming and pentathlon , and later also wheelchair table tennis. She was appointed to the German Paralympic national team and used in swimming at the 1968 Paralympic Summer Games in Tel Aviv . She won a bronze medal in the 25 m swim at the age of 18.

At the next Paralympics, in 1972, she participated in both pentathlon and wheelchair tennis . She became an Olympic champion in the pentathlon.

Since 1976 the table tennis game has been her real profession. She took part in the Paralympics in 1976 and 1980 . At the Paralympics in 1984 she won two golds and one bronze in performance class 1B-4. In 1988 and 1992 she also took part in the Paralympic Games and in 1992 won a bronze medal in the TT 3 performance class. At the World Championships in 1990 she won the world title in singles and doubles.
