Building at Rynek 3 in Lublin

The building at Rynek 3 is located in the historic old town of Lublin in Poland , more precisely: on the market square . It is the birthplace of the theater actor and founder of the State Theater Institute Aleksander Zelwerowicz (* 1877, † 1955).

history

From the middle of the 16th century, the building was owned by the Stanfusor family of bell- makers. Aleksy Stanfusor cast the bell for the Kraków Gate . A major renovation of the building was necessary after a fire in 1575. In the 17th century the building had two floors and an attic. The top floor was converted into a third floor in 1875. Aleksander Zelwerowicz was born here on August 14, 1877. A plaque on the facade of the house commemorates him. In 1938 Jan Wodyński created sgraffito decorations below the windows on the third floor. The flower patterns were covered with plaster in 1954.
