The Rzehakinidae are a family of shell-bearing, sea-dwelling unicellular organisms from the group of foraminifera and the only family in the superfamily of the Rzehakinacea .

features

The shells of the Rzehakinidae are agglutinated, i.e. composed of fine particles of organic origin that are taken up by the animals from the sediment . They are planispiral and comprise either two or more seldom three chambers per turn or the number of chambers increases by one as the number of planes progresses - similar to the Miliolida . The housings are always imperforate.

Systematics

The Rzehakinidae are the only family in the superfamily of the Rzehakinacea. Family and superfamily were first described in 1933 by the American paleontologist Joseph Augustine Cushman . They have been fossilized since the Cretaceous Period .
