Saxon Civil Code

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Civil Code for the Kingdom of Saxony ( Sächsisches BGB for short ) came into force on March 1, 1865 in the Kingdom of Saxony .

As early as 1763, the then Electorate of Saxony was officially considering a private law codification. The Civil Code for the Kingdom of Saxony was promulgated on January 2, 1863 by the Publications Ordinance and came into force on March 1, 1865. It was in effect until January 1, 1900, when the civil code was enacted as an imperial law . This BGB was also influenced by the Saxon Civil Code as the most modern codification of its time.

The materials for the drafts from 1852, 1860 and the final version from 1863 were recorded in a joint project by Christian Hattenhauer from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and Frank Ludwig Schäfer from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . They are freely accessible to the public in a database on the Internet. The printed edition of the materials is in preparation.
