The Saxon Industrial Museum is a decentralized museum with four locations in Saxony. It was founded in 1998 and has been a public corporation since January 1st, 1999 as an economically independent association . The association members are the cities of Chemnitz , Crimmitschau , Ehrenfriedersdorf and the district of Bautzen .

The museums of the Zweckverband are the industrial museum Chemnitz , the cloth factory Gebr. Pfau in Crimmitschau, the tin mine Ehrenfriedersdorf and the energy factory Knappenrode .

The museums represent different forms of presentation of Saxon industrial history. The different types of exhibitions, such as classic museums , textile factories, show mines and special museums, cover the entire spectrum of Saxon industry, starting with mining, through the establishment of the textile industry and textile machine construction, through to machine tool construction.

Under the aspect of researching and presenting the industrial and economic history of Saxony, the area of ​​responsibility of the association extends from the collection and preservation of cultural assets to the preservation of industrial monuments to the use of these buildings as museum facilities.
