Singers' group Ottobrunn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sängerkreis Ottobrunn is a Bavarian male choir from Ottobrunn in the district of Munich .

history

The choir was founded on December 10, 1919 and performed at official community events and church celebrations. Since the outbreak of the Second World War , the work of the choir has stagnated, even after the end of the war because of the ban on assemblies. It was not until 1949 that the military government allowed singing in the club again, so that the work of the choir could continue and concerts could take place again.

This was followed by eventful decades with frequent changes in the board of directors and the choir director, until in 1983 the young church musician Thomas Schmid took over the choir, which he still leads today. The Sängerkreis expanded its concert activities and concert tours at home and abroad and cultivated choir friendships in Austria and Italy, among others .

The men's choir became known to a wide audience with its record "Mit Musik geht alles better", produced in 1989, and the subsequent appearances on Bavarian Radio . Thomas Schmid succeeded in obtaining the publisher's approval for the adaptation of Udo Jürgens ' hit " Greek Wine ", which has since been one of the most popular hits of the Ottobrunner Sängerkreis under the title "Bavarian Beer".

The choir is also involved in the social field with benefit concerts for the “Ottobrunner Tisch”, for the “Münchner Tafel” or donates part of its income. Due to its diverse commitment and its services to the maintenance of choral music and the promotion of cultural life, the Ottobrunn singers' circle was awarded the Zelter plaque by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on its 100th anniversary .
