The Søstrene ( Norwegian for sisters ) are a group of small islands and cliffs off the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . In Prydz Bay they are in the northern part of the Publications Ice Shelf . They include Debutante Iceland .
The Norwegian whaling captain Karius Mikkelsen (1887 - unknown) discovered them in February 1935 as part of the Thorshavn's fourth Antarctic voyage (1934–1935) financed by the Norwegian whaling entrepreneur Lars Christensen . It is named after the archipelago of the same name in the entrance to the Norwegian Oslofjord .
