The Süderschanzen monument in Eckernförde is a cultural monument and as such is entered in the " Directory of registered cultural monuments of the State of Schleswig-Holstein (except Lübeck) ".

history

The monument was to commemorate the battle of Eckernförde on 5 April 1849 the Schleswig-Holstein War 1869/70 by Germano Wanderley built on the site where the war Süder Schanze (or South Battery ) just a few meters from the Eckernförde Bay away was set up. The monument was unveiled on July 10, 1870. In its present form, it consists of an obelisk with cannon balls at the top. An old cannon is set up next to it. The memorial originally had a canopy superstructure. However, the Baltic storm flood on November 13, 1872 destroyed this building. Germando Wanderley also created the Norderschanzen Memorial , which was unveiled on the same day as the Süderschanzen Memorial .
