The southern wart-biter ( Decticus albifrons ) is a species from the subordination of the long-feeler terrors and a close relative of the wart-biter native to Central Europe .
distribution
In Europe, the southern wart-biter is restricted to the Mediterranean region and south-east Europe; there are no finds north of the Alps.
features
The species is similar in shape to the wart-bite ( Decticus verrucivorus ) that is widespread in almost all of Europe , but is usually somewhat larger and never colored green. An important distinguishing feature of the southern wart-biter are the strongly elongated wings, which clearly protrude beyond the rear knees when the legs are stretched backwards. Another distinguishing feature is the wide white border of the pronotum (albifrons (Latin) means roughly white front ).
Way of life
In contrast to the wart-biter, the southern wart-biter is mostly in the bushes, sometimes in trees. Its singing consists of a loud ticking and is thus similar to that of the wart-biter, but is even louder.
