The Südseemusuem Obergünzburg is an ethnological museum in Obergünzburg .

The basis of the museum was the collection of the native Obergünzburg captain Karl Nauer , who drove the Melanesian islands from 1906 to 1913 for the North German Loyd at the helm of the passenger steamer "Sumatra" . Nauer brought over 300 glass plate slides as well as everyday objects and cult objects - from simple spears to filigree carved death masks. In 1913 he handed over his collection with over 1,500 exhibits to the community of Obergünzburg, which made him an honorary citizen and named a street after him. The collection was first exhibited in the attic of the “girls' school”, and later in the listed parish hall , which had to be cleared in 1990 due to urgent renovation work. In 2005–2009 a new building was built next to the local history museum in Obergünzburg, which was set up in the former vicarage , and has been home to the collection since it opened in May 2009.
