The Südtiroler Wirtschaftszeitung is a German-language weekly newspaper that appears in the Italian province of South Tyrol .

General

The Südtiroler Wirtschaftszeitung (abbreviation: SWZ), founded in 1919, appears every Friday as a “weekly paper for business and politics” with an average circulation of almost 4,500 copies. The SEZ is predominantly purchased by subscription, namely by businesspeople of all sectors, freelancers and managers as well as senior employees. The SEZ lives without financial contributions from the public sector and is valued primarily for its independence, balance, analysis and critical comments.

Publisher or owner

The "Neuer Südtiroler Wirtschaftsverlag GmbH" has been the publisher for around 40 years. This company has just over 100 shareholders, some of them companies from all sectors (the majority are industrial and trading companies), some of them private individuals. The partners are spatially distributed all over South Tyrol - from Innichen to the Vinschgau , from the Eisack Valley to the Unterland .

The company's capital was broadly diversified from the start, and that has not changed to this day. The partner with the largest share holds around five percent, most have half, one or 1.5 percent share. The SEZ sees itself as independent of associations, and there are no shareholders and no industry that would have a decisive influence due to their participation. The shareholders elect a board of directors every three years, which appoints the president from among its members. The current management body consists of Franz Staffler (President), Nikolaus Tribus (Vice President), Robert Weißensteiner, Magdalena Amonn, Werner Gramm, Evelyn Kirchmaier and Stefan Rubner.

The SWZ finances itself through proceeds from the sale of subscriptions and advertisements. It does not receive any regular financial subsidies, neither from an association nor from the state or the state of South Tyrol, but finances itself through its readers and advertisers.

history

Title page of the Industrie- und Handels-Zeitung , issue of September 2, 1928

The Südtiroler Wirtschaftszeitung was founded in 1919 under the name “Industrie- und Handels-Zeitung” and saw itself as a “weekly for industry, trade and commerce, the association organ of the trade association and other commercial and commercial organizations in the country”. The separation of South Tyrol from Tyrol cut off the commercial companies from the trade journals published north of the Brenner Pass, so that a newspaper was launched that specifically addressed South Tyrolean topics, especially since the country now belonged to Italy and Italian laws and framework conditions applied here. Alois Santifaller acted as editor . The sheet was printed by Ferrari-Auer in Bolzano.

Like other German-language publications, the newspaper was persecuted during the fascist era and had to cease publication in 1935 at the behest of the authorities. It appeared again on December 5, 1945, now under the name "Südtiroler Wirtschaftszeitung - weekly for trade, commerce, agriculture and cooperatives".
