The locomotives of the SŽD series ТГ106 (German transcription TG 106) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) were wide-gauge diesel locomotives with diesel-hydraulic power transmission, primarily for mixed service.

history

After the construction of the SŽD series ТГ105 in 1961, the Luhansk Locomotive Factory developed a locomotive with hydrodynamic power transmission and an output of 4,000 hp. It was delivered to the SŽD for testing in October 1961 . After two of the May 1962 Henschel commissioned locomotives with 4000 horsepower engine power ( TG 400-01 ) with hydrodynamic power transmission to the SZD was delivered, the luhanskteplovoz made two further improved in details machines of the series ТГ106 , and gave it to 1963 in Business.

The machines were the most powerful diesel locomotives in a unit in their time. Even so, they never got out of the experimental stage. Although the Kolomna locomotive factory also developed a 4,000 HP locomotive with hydrodynamic power transmission ( ТГ50 ) at that time , there is no mention of any operational dates in the literature for the diesel-hydraulic single- frame locomotives. It can be safely assumed that they were retired early on. It is not clear from the literature whether locomotives were preserved.

technical description

The locomotive is a single frame locomotive with two three-axle bogies. The locomotive frame and superstructure form a load-bearing unit and are welded together. The two machine units are arranged symmetrically. The large engine room is located between the two noise-insulated end cabs. The cooling system is housed in the middle. The fluid drives, which are fastened in the locomotive frame, are arranged below the radiator. Similar to the SŽD series ТЭП60 , the locomotive frame is supported by four spring pendulum supports with shock absorbers on each bogie. 4 spring straps transmit the horizontal forces between the locomotive frame and the bogie on each bogie.

The 12-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine of the type D 40 achieves its performance mainly through charging. It is charged in two stages, firstly by an exhaust gas turbocharger and secondly by a mechanically driven fan with charge air cooling . The diesel engine is started electrically via a light starter.

The hydrodynamic power transmission consists of the elastic coupling, the fluid transmission mounted in the locomotive frame, the reversing and transfer case mounted in the bogie, the three axle drives and the cardan shafts. The fluid transmission is constructed similarly to the SŽD series ТГ102 .

Automatic monitoring systems monitor the machine system. The locomotive is controlled electropneumatically. The three locomotives do not have multiple controls.
