Career
Jean Baeza was born in Algiers in 1942 and began his racing career in the Racing Universitaire d'Alger in his home country, before moving to Racing Club de Paris in 1961 , an up-and-coming club in Division 1 , the top division of France. However, in the same year he moved to AS Cannes in Division 2 , which was his first stop in France's professional football and to which he should return at the end of his career. In Cannes, Baeza was used regularly and positioned himself with the team mostly in the lower midfield of the table, before surprisingly succeeded in promotion to Division 1 in the 1964/65 season as third-placed. Although the direct relegation back to the second division followed in the following season , Baeza was able to present himself on a larger stage, so that at the end of this season, AS Monaco signed him.
He was on the pitch for Monaco from 1966 to 1968 and played 59 league games during this period. In addition, during this period, his engagement with the national team of France , for which he made his debut in the 4-1 success in qualifying for the European Championship in 1968 over Poland . The Equipe Tricolore prevailed in their qualifying group as group winners, but failed in the quarter-finals to Yugoslavia , with Baeza playing all five games from the game against Poland to the elimination. There were also three friendlies, of which the 1: 3 against Spain was his last international match. At that time he had already moved from Monaco to Red Star Paris , but stayed there for only a year and subsequently joined Olympique Lyon .
In the following five years at "OL" Baeza formed a compact line of defense together with Raymond Domenech , Bernard Lhomme (both full defense) and Ljubomir Mihajlović (central defense), which gradually led the team from the lower mid-table to the top five. In 1972 the team won the Coupe de France , with Baez unable to participate in the 1-0 final victory over FC Nantes due to a suspension. The following year they secured (with Baez) the Super Cup , in which last year's champion Nantes was again the opponent. After Lyon reached third place in the 1973/74 season, the best placement in a long time, Baez left the team. In total, he was in more than 150 league games for "OL" on the field.
Subsequently, at the age of 32, Baez returned to his first professional club, AS Cannes, to end his career in Division 2 until 1978. After his active career, he settled in Cannes and died there in 2011 at the age of 68. Between 1984 and 1985 he was PDG for a cleaning company in Cannes.
